Welcome to Hillcrest Middle School
From the Principal’s Desk
As partners in your child’s education, it is important to ensure that they are prepared for each step along their educational journey. One way to determine student preparedness is through assessment; therefore, we will be administering the SC PASS, SC Ready, and EOC tests to students in May, with make-up testing through June 1. 2018. Your child will be taking SC PASS and SC Ready on the following dates:
SC PASS Science (6th/8th Grades) May 15 (Tuesday)
SC PASS Social Studies (7th Grade) May 15 (Tuesday)
SC Ready Language Arts Writing May 17 (Thursday)
SC Ready Language Arts May 18 (Friday)
SC Ready Math May 24 (Thursday)
Eighth grade students enrolled in English I and Algebra I will have additional testing for their high school courses. These dates are:
English I – TDA (Writing) May 9 (Wednesday)
English I – EOC May 22 (Tuesday)
Algebra I – EOC May 23 (Wednesday)
Student attendance during state testing is mandatory. Please have your child at school on time each day. Doctor appointments and other out of school functions should not be scheduled on testing days. Please also make sure your child gets adequate sleep and has a good breakfast on testing days to ensure a successful testing experience.
SC PASS and SC Ready results will provide important information regarding how your child is progressing at his/her current grade level. Test scores will indicate which important skills, abilities, and knowledge your student has now, and which ones need to be learned for school success in the future. Results will help your child’s teacher understand where your child is succeeding, as well as where extra help or academic focus is needed. Please make sure your child’s chromebook is charged each night before testing.
English I and Algebra I tests count as 20% of your child’s final grade. Results will help your child’s teacher understand where your child is succeeding, as well as where extra help or academic focus is needed. End of Course tests will also provide specific suggestions for improving skills.
We need your support to ensure that your child is present, on time each day, and alert to do his/her best on their tests. At Hillcrest Middle School, we want all students to be successful. We appreciate your cooperation and support.
