Dear Parent/Guardian

As partners in your child's education, it is important to ensure that they are prepared for each step along their educational journey.  One way to determine student preparedness is through assessment; therefore, we will be administering ACT Aspire tests to students on April 28-30, with make-up testing through May 13, 2015.  Your child will be taking the ACT Aspire tests on the following dates:

 Writing and English
April 28 (Tuesday)
       Reading      April 29 (Wednesday)
  Mathematics April 30 (Thursday)

Student attendance during ACT Aspire is mandatory.  Please have your child at school on time each day.  Doctor appointments and other out of school functions should not be scheduled on testing days.  Please also make sure your child gets adequate sleep and has a good breakfast on testing days to ensure a successful testing environment.

Students are not permitted to bring electronic devices or have cell phones on campus as outlined in the Sumter School District Policy, especially during ACT Aspire.  Having these devices in a testing environment is a direct violation of state testing guidelines.

ACT Aspire test results will provide important information regarding how your child is progressing at his/her current grade level.  Test scores will indicate which important skills, abilities, and knowledge your child has now, and which ones need to be learned for school success in the future.  Results will help your child's teacher understand where your child is succeeding, as well as where extra help or academic focus is needed.  ACT Aspire will also provide specific suggestions for improving skills.

You can learn more about ACT Aspire at http://www.discoveractaspire.org.

We need your support to ensure that your child is present, on time each day, and alert to do his/her best on ACT Aspire.
At Hillcrest Middle School, we want all students to be successful.  We appreciate your cooperation and support.
