From the Principal's Desk

January 16, 2014

Dear Parent(s):

Providing the best instruction for all of our students here at Hillcrest Middle School is one of our top priorities.  We believe our students are some of the best and brightest in Sumter School District.  In order to better plan intentional instruction and prepare our students for success, we will be administering formative assessments in the areas of Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science beginning January 21, 2014.  These benchmarks are a part of the TE21 testing series for core content areas.  TE21 is correlated to our state curriculum standards and will provide data our teachers will be able to use for targeted instruction.

Our goal is to provide our students with a "PASS like" testing environment while providing our instructional staff with additional feedback on our content areas of strengths and challenges as we begin our second semester.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions.  Thank you for allowing us to serve your child and work closely with you, as together we impact the future.

What Real Wildcats Know

It All Starts With Breakfast!
Research has shown the benefits of a healthy breakfast for school children. More students are eating breakfast and South Carolina's school officials have seen how this has had a positive impact on our students.
Hillcrest Middle School serves breakfast to our students each morning, at no cost.  Please encourage your child to eat breakfast every day.

Electronic Communication Devices

The board believes that the possession of electronic devices by students during the school day may have an adverse effect on classroom instruction.  Electronic communication devices are defined as  telecommunication devices, to include mobile telephones that emit an audible signal, vibrate, display a message or otherwise summon or deliver a communication to the processor.

Therefore, any student who is in possession of an electronic communication device as outlined in the district's policy and the Guidelines as noted below is subject to discipline as provided under the district's code of student conduct.
